Good morning all! Many of you are waking up for school or work and seeing the rain outside, no worries it was suppose to be doing this for the early morning. The temps are a few degrees than the models indicated but the dewpoints near 32 degrees are the areas we'll see the most snow today.
Those areas are Allentown, Lancaster, Reading, Poconos, Scranton and NW NJ. My map has been lower than most weather outlets and the NWS because the rain factor on surfaces will make for a harder time to stick plus coming off 45-50 degrees last night. Sure it will snow hard at times today but we'll burn a lot of moisture to get the snow to start to pile-up. The jackpot zone is on the other side of the Lehigh Tunnel from Jim Thorpe to the Poconos with a deformation zone there and a good pop of snow later today.
The advisories and warnings above are good but I would shave the Winter Storm Warning about 10-20 miles north of where it is posted this morning, The new criteria for a Winter Storm Warning is 5"+ of snow in a 12 hour period or 7"+ in a 24 hour period. The old criteria last year was 4"/6" for the area. The rain and puddles will take away some of the totals and temps never really getting below 32 in all areas except in the Poconos where it is snow right now.
Areas S & E of I-95 may not see any snow until after 5pm or sunset and don't expect much after that with the way this storm will move later today and tonight.
SNOW TOTAL MAP FOR TODAY/TONIGHT
This is my map this morning and here at 8:30am I have no changes. The idea here is the heaviest snow may fall during the day, not at night. If this is the case again the snow will pile up in spots but maybe a shade lower than the NWS map below. I took off 1-2" per region for the most part.
IF YOU ARE IN PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, DPW, SCHOOL DISTRICTS OR PLOW SNOW THE TOTALS ON LOTS/SIDEWALKS AND ROADS WILL BE VERY DIFFERENT TODAY VS. THE TOTALS ABOVE.

The snow will start to pile up NW to SE and it will take all day to get any accumulations along I-95 and points S & E. This is a heavy wet loaded storm so the heavy snow could be a problem with branches and trees in the Poconos and Lehigh Valley by tonight.
SLEET IN NJ AND OTHER LOCATIONS? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ROB?
This just means the jet stream is over NJ at this time and should not affect the snow totals in NJ and DE. Most of this energy is gonna stay offshore but if sleet does get into the mix in PA where the totals are higher well the snow totals overall will be lower later today and tonight.
